How a capo changes the key

A capo raises every string by one semitone per fret. Play G shapes with the capo on fret 2 and you hear A major, while your fingers keep the easy open chords.

Singers often need a key a little higher or lower than the chords on the page. Find the key that suits the voice, then pick a row with shapes you like.
